K-pop meets Yellowjackets, but make it sapphic? Yes, please. This book tackles the horrors of fame and infamy paired with the equally terrifying concept of teenage girls.

Sunny is a washed up former K-pop star at the ripe old age of 17. She was 1/3 of a popular girl band created for by and for a teen drama, along with her best friends, sweetheart Mina and cool girl Candie. Until Mina dies a horrible and mysterious death.

Now, it’s several years later, and Sunny and Candie have been estranged since Mina’s death. Sunny is haunted—by the loss, and possibly by her friend’s ghost. When she hears that Candie has signed up for a cutthroat talent competition, she comes out of retirement to join, determined to repair their relationship and solve the mystery of Mina’s death.

There were elements in this novel that genuinely creeped me out—the opening chapter is a perfect example. I don’t want to spoil anything, but the type of body horror in this was something I’d never read before and definitely gave me chills. Unfortunately, I think the mystery of what could’ve been behind things was more intriguing to me than what the actual reveal was. I’m a noted Debbie Downer when it comes to supernatural horror, though, so don’t count this one out if that’s your thing! I liked Sunny as a main character, but was not a fan of Candie, so I didn’t buy into the romance plot much. I am always a sucker for complicated female friendships, though, and this had that in spades.

Also, can we just take a moment to swoon over this cover and also the naked hardback? I mean, come on. Shoutout to BookishFirst for the ARC, let me know if this one’s on your TBR!
