This a sharp and fun "Pride and Prejudice" retelling that takes a look at the construct of fame by recasting the Benet family as the Benedettos, a Kardashian-esque reality TV family. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I promise it works.

The Benedettos are the joke of their California neighborhood, low on money now that their show has ended, but not without infamy. If Lilly, our Elizabeth, has to hear the phrase "famous for being famous" one more time, she's going to lose it. Lilly is biting and clever and hilarious, I laughed out loud at her quips several times while reading.

Will, aka William Darcy, is new to the neighborhood. He's relocated to LA to make the transition from stage acting to film, while simultaneously fleeing the scene of a mental health breakdown in New York. He's rooming with his childhood best friend, Charlie Bingley, aka the newly cast action star of the Major Fantastic franchise.

As you can probably predict, Lilly and Will get off on the wrong foot. I really enjoyed their banter and dynamic. It was modernized well and in a believable way. I also liked the exploration of Will's mental health issues and the expanded emphasis on family ties for all characters. This book is less than 300 pages, and I binged it in a few hours. It's a great palate cleanser and a clever, updated twist on a beloved classic.
