It's sometime in the 1300s and Raff is on his way to his sister's arranged wedding to the lord of a nearby keep. William, aka Penn, is that lord. But before introductions can be made, he runs away. Raff, a talented tracker, is sent to find his would-be brother-in-law in Hartswood Forest. But who he finds is Penn, who claims to have been a servant to the now-missing William searching for new work, and whose lack of survival skills charm Raff. The two agree to travel together, with Raff not knowing that Penn is the man he seeks, and Penn not knowing that Raff is the brother of his betrothed, and not just a simple tracker.

The setup for this is fun, and I enjoyed Penn and Raff, but you definitely need to suspend your disbelief at the historical details and willful ignorance for this storyline to work for you. Like, what are the odds you just happen to find this man in the woods while you're looking for a man in the woods, and you never think hmmm, could be the same man? I was a sucker for the forced proximity of their travel, and it was a fun detour from some of my usual reads, but not my favorite gay medieval romance I've read lately, which is a statement I never thought I would say. Also, points off for using the word "prick" in smut scenes, because that just about took me out. Thank you to Harper Collins for the gifted advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
